«Violence and Concepts of Honour in Switzerland»
November 21st to 25th, 2011
Within the scope of this year's VOIX DES FEMMES, we will address the phenomenon of honour-based violence. We are analysing a system of values that defines honour and shame and that turns communities and its members into both offenders and victims. Only when we understand these specific power structures and the conditions under which they thrive, can we find ways to escape this violence.
Our guest this year is the Turkish writer and researcher of the male gender
Pınar Selek. She is one of the leading antimilitaristic civil rights activists of
Turkey and co-founder of the feminist group «Amargi» in Istanbul.
